I started my university life a year and a half ago, and I have to say that it is truly unlike anything I have ever experienced. I left my hometown and moved to a campus, where Steve and I have shared a room since I moved in. He’s fine, but I don’t think we’ve managed to develop a really deep friendship. About two months after I moved into the campus, I started to get a job to make ends meet. My parents helped me from home, but I didn’t want to cause them any trouble, they still support me in whatever they can. I worked as a bartender in a nearby bar, but the evening job was exhausting and I only lasted a few months. The brother of one of my teachers had a company, I went for an interview and everything was all right, so I took a job working four days of four hours a week. It paid well and I had time to study and prepare for exams. The company was doing engraving and textile printing, I learned the job very quickly, I was interested and found it exciting. Plus, I got to print some of my own T-shirts for free.
Establishment and networking
I got on really well with the boss, we used to go out for a beer together sometimes and play basketball. He was only nine years older than me, living with his girlfriend in a spacious apartment in downtown Boston. Ted was impressed with me. He taught me everything he knew about this job.
The first big challenge, the first big job
One day, a client came in and wanted to print a large amount of T-shirts with Hot Slots and GG Bet Casino on them, and we had to come up with the design for the T-shirts. Ted asked me if I was in, if I would do the design, and of course there would be an extra salary. I was good at graphic design stuff because I’d studied it for six months and I’d done it in my free time sometimes.
So I took the job. There were a lot of T-shirts with Hot Slot and GG Bet Casino on them, and the company made a lot of money on that job. So it was a big responsibility for me. I enjoyed the challenge and spent the next week learning and working on the design of the T-shirts. Luckily for me, the client was a communicative person, we understood each other easily and had no problems working together.
The sweet fruits of successful collaboration
After about two weeks, the final Hot Slots and GG Bet Casino logos were ready, and the client was very happy with my work. The T-shirt printing could begin. We’re talking about thousands of T-shirts, so when I say that it was a big responsibility and a big money job, I’m not exaggerating. When the last T-shirt was made, packaged, loaded on the truck and sent to the customer, I felt an incredible sense of satisfaction.
It was the biggest job of my life. The client was very satisfied with our services and said that they would like to continue to work exclusively with us in the future. I was delighted, I felt that my work was really appreciated. Moreover, I passed my exams, so my new job didn’t interfere with my studies.
From employer to friend
For a while now, I’ve been saving almost all my money because I wanted to buy my first car. Ted knew this, I think it came up once over a beer. With my university expenses, I wasn’t doing too well at saving money. After the client paid the company for the T-shirts, Ted told me that he wanted to give me all the profits from the T-shirts plus the cost of designing the logos.
I thought I heard wrong. Needless to say, it’s not a small amount of money. I asked him if he was serious. Ted said yes.
That month I did get a huge salary, and a few weeks later I was driving my own car to work. I’m incredibly grateful to Ted, and that he trusted me enough to teach me everything he knew and give me the chance to really start on the path to independent life.
